Four students from Tallahassee Community College and Flagler College-TCC waited anxiously to find out if they had been accepted as student teachers into the 2016 TCC-Taiwan Summer English Program. When notified that they were accepted, they were very excited! Little did Michaela, Gabriela, and Elaney know that they would have a tremendous amount of preparation for the trip.....but that it would also be the experience of a lifetime! (Danielle went to Taiwan previously, and knew how wonderful it would be!)
Week after week, the student teachers met and developed English curriculum materials for the students of San Sin High School in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, who would enroll in the Summer English Program. They were also provided with tips and hints for teaching and living in a totally different culture! There was always new information to think about......and flying for about 22 hours to get there?
Flagler College on the TCC campus trains students to become teachers. So the group had many resources and great people to draw from as they prepared to teach English to non-native English speakers. Many thanks to Ms. Anna Burnley and Ms. Tricia Rizza for their assistance!
Finally the student teachers realized that they were leaving for Taiwan in just a few days. They rushed home to pack the many items they would need for the trip. Their suitcases became very heavy, pushing the 50-pound-per-bag limit. They couldn't wait to begin their round-the-world trip and teaching experience!
